Why?
Same reason many people are using the Fediverse/Mastodon - nothing should be centralized to a single website, including fandom! I hold no contempt for Archive of Our Own, I just think that it is a good idea to establish a fandom presence on other areas of the web. AO3 is great, but not everyone wants to use it for various reasons. So: here we are with expandingfandom!
What?
We'll be running events on our other platforms if possible and allowed. We'll also be posting tutorials and other resources for making static personal archives. And... maybe more! Expanding Fandom is still a baby. If you want to help out, email expanding@teeth.dog.
